Climate Emergency Manchester has a busy May coming up.
This blog tells you what’s coming and how to get involved.
First, a reminder of our aims.
First, we aim to thrive
Second, we want to use that thriving to apply pressure for an adequate local response to the climate crisis.
So, on Thursday 6th May local elections happen. We are still trying to get many candidates – especially Labour – to answer basic questions. The count for Manchester City Council happens on Friday 7th. We will report on the results.
On the 10th we will be sending congrats letters to all the new councillors
In the evening, at 8.30 we have our monthly public meeting.
Online only, but fingers crossed in future we can meet face-to-face. The point of the meeting is to mingle, explain some more detail, find out other people’s activities.
Later in the week the memberships of the various committees (but not the Exec) will be announced. We will be sending open letters to the chairs of the six scrutiny committees, and the new new members.
On Weds 19th Annual Council happens – we will be reporting on that – follow our live-tweeting!
On the 20th we will be releasing a blog about the following week’s Scrutiny Committee meetings AND launching our second Student Guide to the Climate Crisis with an online meeting in the evening
From the 25th to the 27th we will be, as we have since the beginning of the year, covering all six scrutiny committees, including with live-tweeting and blogging.
On Wednesday 2nd June, we will be at the first meeting of the new Executive, seeing if they have any meaningful discussion of climate change (unlikely there’s always a first time…)
